Summer Enrichment Program at the University of Michigan

UMSEP provides juniors and seniors from underrepresented groups an 8-week summer pre-professional internship in a health care or public health organization to learn more about health disparities, the health care system, and public health. Students are paired with mentors to complete a research project and will attend meetings, lectures, and present research findings. DACA students are eligible to apply.

Mission

To identify and train future leaders of health care organizations who will strive to eliminate health inequalities.

Specific goals include:

  • To help undergraduate students identify health management and policy as an excellent field through which they can have an impact on health disparities.
  • To expose students to populations that experience health disparities and to the responsibilities and activities of health executives who work in organizations that serve low-income populations of color.
  • To provide students with opportunities to learn more about health disparities, health care organizations, the health care system, and public health through formal and informal meetings and visits with health administrators, UM SPH alumni, UM faculty, and other program preceptors.
